Celebrating £15000 donations to local charities and welcoming new Council Members
The Club’s 2018 Annual General Meeting and Charity Cheque Dinner took place at Chester’s Slow Boat Oriental Restaurant and culminated with £15000 being donated to local charities.
The Lord Mayor (Cllr Alex Black) and the Lady Mayoress (Janet Black) were in attendance, along with the Chester Business Club Executive Council and many other business owners and influencers from the Chester area.
Following the customary sumptuous Chinese Banquet, the AGM saw the election of the following Officers:

There was a very warm welcome to the new Club Treasurer and Solicitor and the newly elected EC Members.
David Faulkner, President, proposed a vote of very sincere thanks to Bill Benoy who is standing down from the Club Treasurership after many years in office.
Following the AGM, Charity Cheques from advance monies raised from the Annual Charity Walk to be held on Sunday 9th September, were presented to representatives from the following organisations:
Bridge Wellness Gardens
This project provides a healthy, therapeutic environment for people with physical and learning disabilities or for people who may be recovering from depression, post-traumatic stress and other mental health conditions.
Their cheque was received by Clair Johnson and Michelle Percival and presented by our new Executive Council member, Elaine Thomas.
Claire House Children’s Hospice
This wonderful children’s hospice offers the very best care wherever and whenever a child and family needs it, whether they choose to come to the hospice or are looked after at home. Their cheque was received by Angella Rawsthorne and presented by Club colleague, Duncan Falconer.
The Chester Samaritans
For more than 50 years Chester’s Samaritans have been changing lives by listening to people on the phone – and, now, on social media – providing a 24 hour, confidential, non-judgmental emotional support to any person in distress or despair. Their cheque was received by their new Director, Mike Nicol, from Club colleague Roy Shelton.
Woodwork to Wellness
Created to promote Good health and Wellbeing, based in Saltney, this project caters for those who are able-bodied along with those with disabilities, be that emotional, mental or physical and including wheelchair users – and can help in the adjustment to a new life or retirement.
Their cheque was received by the Founder of this imaginative project, Graham Stephens, and presented by Club colleague Dickie Danby.
Chester Sports Association for People with Disability
Established over 20 years ago and run by volunteers, the Association is open to both young people and adults with a learning disability aged 14 and over.
Their cheque was presented by Club colleague Julie Webb and received by one of the stalwarts of the Association, Ian Gough.
Save The Family
Save the Family provides residential accommodation and support for families that are homeless (or at risk of becoming homeless) and who have multiple and complex needs.
Their cheque was received by their chief executive, John Church and presented by Club colleague, Bill Benoy.
Charity Ball Cheques
Cheques were also presented to the Hospice of the Good Shepherd and the Countess of Chester Charity, for funds raised at the Casino Royale themed Charity Ball held on 9th June 2018.
The Hospice’s cheque tonight was received by their Chief Executive Margaret Wright and Abi Smith and presented by new Executive Council member, Andy Piggott.
The Countess Charity’s cheque was received by the Head of Fundraising, Lesley Woodhead, and presented by Club colleague Trevor Vanzie.
