The Club’s annual Charity Ladies Lunch, again masterminded by CBC Chairman Julie Swinnerton, proved another sell-out occasion at the Abode Hotel Chester on Friday (March 6).
This year the chosen charity was Chester Women’s Aid and the event was kindly sponsored by Jollifes Solicitors.
The guest speaker was Chiara Lisoswki – a One Young World Ambassador, a Trustee for Chester Women’s Aid and a TEDx speaker – who is herself a survivor of domestic violence.
In her inspirational speech she challenged the audience to dispel any stereotypes they may have about abuse.
She was followed by Eliabeth Hassall, Head of Family Department at Jolliffe & Co, who told the audience of the significant changes being introduced this year in marriage and divorce legal and financial arrangements.
Julie Swinnerton said, “It was really great and very rewarding to again have the backing of so many ladies for this annual event, and do so in support of Chester Women’s Aid.
“One of my main aims, since becoming Club chairman, has been to try to tap into and actively encourage the host of local talented businesswomen to put themselves forward to become members of the Club.
“When I first joined CBC over 30 years ago I was a distinct minority of women who felt comfortable enough to join this, then, male-dominated business organisation. However, since then slowly but surely female businesswomen have began to become actively involved an indeed a force to be reckoned with within the Club!
“I am especially grateful to Jolliffes for their much appreciated financial sponsorship of this important event.”
