Chester Food and Drink Week launches today, and runs until this Sunday 20th September. It is the city’s first collaborative food and drink campaign – facilitated by Izzy Grey from We Love Good Times and created to honour the Taste Cheshire Food and Drink Festival which the city has missed so much this year.
Izzy said ‘I am so pleased to have helped create a brand new celebratory week for our beloved food and drink sector, who have been hit so hard by the pandemic. And to remember one of the most important events which would have been 20 years old this year, the Taste Cheshire Chester Food, Drink & Lifestyle Festival. We all look forward to this fabulous foodie event so much every year, and to say that it has been missed in 2020 is a huge understatement. I felt it was really important to support and celebrate the entire industry, who rolled their sleeves up and continued to trade wherever possible throughout such a challenging time. I salute them all’.
The new Chester Food and Drink Week is the coming-together of Chester’s tourism, marketing and support organisations as well as the invaluable support from local businesses. Taste Cheshire, Visit Chester & Cheshire, CH1 Chester BID and Cheshire West and Chester Council have all partnered and sponsored the initiative – lending their skills and experience to the cause.
The city’s local business community also stepped up with Deva Fest, Qbunk, ABC Taxis, Jolliffes Law, EPay Merchant Services and the Chester Business Club also providing sponsorship – and Steve Hesketh, Chair of Chester’s Hospitality Association also gave a lending hand with sponsorship and guidance.
Izzy continued ‘One of the real highlights for me is the first of three Farmers Markets, taking place in the Nave at Chester Cathedral on Wednesday 16th September from 10am til 4pm. For organiser Stephen Wundke to have secured such an incredible venue with special permission being granted from The Dean of Chester Cathedral, The Venerable Timothy Stratford, is an amazing achievement. A local producers event has not taken place there for over 100 years – so we are beyond excited to Shop Local at the cathedral this week.’
Locals and visitors can expect unique taste experiences in some of their favourite venues as well as plenty of recommendations, three farmers markets and a brand new food and drink map and key, which can be found in the Chester Food and Drink newspapers, delivered to all 136 venues included on the map.
Chester Food and Drink Week is set to return at Easter time 2021 in the run up to the Chester Food and Drink Festival, and again in September as we head into the Autumn.
