Chester Business Club’s annual Charity Walk saw over 250 – and over 50 family dogs – step out to raise funds for local Chester good causes.
Starting from Chester Racecourse the six-mile course took walkers up the Duke’s Drive, through Eccleston Village, along the Meadows and back to the Finish at the racecourse.
This annual event – with Pets At Home as the Headline Sponsor – featured its now traditional four refreshment stages: chocolate bars, orange juice, bacon butties & coffee, and finishing with a refreshing gin and tonic.
The funds raised were in support of the Club’s 2021 nominated charities (Bridge Community Wellness Gardens, Chester Sports Association for People with Disabilities, Chester Aid to the Homeless [CATH] and Chester Sexual Assault Support Services [CSASS]).
Other charities taking part, raising funds for their own coffers, included Chester Samaritans, Cheshire Autism Practical Support [ChAPS], ICU Steps Chester, Alzheimer’s Society, Hospice of the Good Shepherd, Blacon Beacon, Countess of Chester Charity, Cheshire Wildlife Trust, Dementia UK, Macmillan Nursing, Neurotherapy Centre, Save The Family, Sue Ryder Charity and the Motor Neurone Disease Charity.
The Lord Mayor of Chester, Cllr Martyn Delaney, led a team walking in support of the Deafness Support Network (one the Lord Mayor’s designated charities for his year of office).
Other event sponsors included, Matthews of Chester, Russell * Russell, Steelforce UK and DropJaw Ventures.
Business Club chairman Roy Shelton said, ‘After having to cancel last year’s event because the Covid situation, it was really good to be able to stage the Walk event again. It was a great day, the weather held, everyone enjoyed the event and, most importantly, early indications are the Walk is on course to raise £18,000 for the charities.’
